I’m asked a lot of questions about ghostwriting, but here are the more frequent ones
Of course – email me on johnwoody67@hotmail.com or call anytime on 07999 478931.
There are many publishers out there, of all shapes and sizes, looking for stories of every imaginable nature, and so it may be that your next step is to engage a literary agent or identify a suitable publisher. Alternatively, you may prefer to self-publish, which can be quicker and advantageous in retaining complete control of the publication.
There are pluses and minuses, mainly regarding control, cost, and quality, with both options. According to the nature of your book, I am more than happy to advise on next steps.
Absolutely – I’m more than happy to discuss personal memoirs not for general publication.
A good ghostwriter should be able to empathise with and understand, with emotional depth and clarity, your story. Before choosing a ghostwriter it’s worth looking at both their background and the books they have worked on to establish whether they have the necessary experience and skills to deliver the beating heart of your story – to truly involve the reader and make them want to know more. To ensure also that, at the end of the process, you receive the book you both desire and deserve.
Quality takes time. Inception to delivery can take up to six months, potentially longer, bearing in mind the need to establish the precise requirements and content of the book, several hours or potentially days of interviews, revision of drafts, and completion of the final manuscript. The overriding factor is that the book realises its true potential.
In short, it works in the way that feels most comfortable to you. We can work face to face, remotely, at a place of your choosing – whatever is most conducive to you talking freely and openly.
From those conversations (often I will provide you with themes we can discuss to give you time to gather your thoughts) I will go away and begin writing your story, in your voice, providing you with regular updates and segments of copy so you feel reassured the book is being written in tune with your wishes.
It is important that at all times you never feel restricted; that the book’s contents flow organically. Meetings are never an interview; they are always a conversation. Putting a book together is a serious process, but the sun can shine too.
We will also talk generally around the kind of book you want to produce. How do you want it to feel? What elements of your personality are you keen to get across?
Are there other books that you feel would be helpful as a general guide to the kind of publication you would like?
Working together, we can ensure the finished book is exactly what you want.
Putting your story in print is a great way of establishing respect and gravitas in your sector. In times when AI is making bigger inroads into storytelling, an authentic book in your own voice has never had more value in establishing your position in your chosen industry. Choosing the right person to write your business story is an investment in your future.
If you are a businessperson looking back on your career, or wishing to write a book offering key advice to others, a ghostwriter not only takes away the sheer investment of time you probably don’t have, but has the knowledge to best structure and write your book to appeal to your chosen market.
As an experienced award-winning ghostwriter, my prices start from £25,000, depending on the length and nature of the project. Most are in the £25-50,000 range, covering all elements of the process to the final completed manuscript.
If you’ve already made a start – maybe you need guidance with structure or revisions rather than a book written from point zero – then naturally pricing will reflect the precise nature of your needs.
To discuss pricing further, please do feel free to get in touch for an informal chat.

Over several sessions, preferably face-to-face, or alternatively via an online platform, I talk over the story with the subject.
I then use those conversations as a framework, delivering thoughts, reflections, and emotions in what is recognisably their voice.
A ghostwriter is so called for a reason – the reader should never know they are there.
